This line:
"Pointing to the so-called 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, ..."
is from this article:

http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20140718/lead/lead1.html

Sometimes I don't understand properly the meaning of words used in some JA newspapers, so I'm trying to be open to different meanings.

Does the writer mean the terrorist attacks are so called "9/11"? As in, the attacks are commonly referred to as "9/11 attacks".

Or does the writer mean they were so-called terrorists attacks. As in, they're called terrorists attacks but actually weren't. Or never happened. Or some other conspiracy-minded thinking?

Good Question!!

The Ja newspapers are much like this board
things can get misinterpreted between the writers and the readers
some folks get ruffled
and the rest of us are baffled

I am thinking of the expression "a su it call' , meaning just the name that used to identify the event.

Now, if they thought the incident did not happen they would simple say so. Dem lie bout wah did happen ,nuttin nuh gu su. So-called is almost too politically correct. If I was reading this as a Jamaican I would think they were referring to the even as 9/11. If I was reading this as an American then it would be a politically correct way to say it did not happen.

Thanks for the replies.

After some reflection, and word definition searching, I'm assuming the writer used "so-called" as a synonym for "titular".

I'm used to the more common (in my experience) "allegedly" use of the phrase (usually with sarcasm), but I'm going to assume that was not the case hear.
