In my opinion Jitterbug and TAH speak the truth...on the other hand, you RG777 seem to be unable to see how you come off to others...maybe it's time to just observe and NOT speak. We all know about how "in" you are with the "in crowd" and your "long term" stays of two months or so each year in Negril....you've been telling us for years ad nauseum!!! It's OK to observe and absorb the opinions of others without interjecting your 2 cents worth ALL the time!!! Again..just my opinion!!!

Everybody's got one....lol.

Thanks...but I'll continue to express myself here (I do a lot of observing and laughing, believe you me) when I feel I want to.  If you don't like what I have to say....well...then you don't like what I have to say.  Can't do anything about that.

"We all know about how "in" you are with the "in crowd""
Mmmmm....curious..."in crowd".  I have no idea what that is, I left the "in crowd" behind in Jr. High School lol.

"and your "long term" stays of two months or so each year in Negril....you've been telling us for years ad nauseum!!!"
And...if its relevant, I'll say it again.

I'm right there with you Booger. The Virgin Islands are mighty nice, and really aren't that much more expensive.

RE: bar owner shot dead in Negril last night - rastagirl777 - 06-13-2016

"You know, I watched for years as you shouted down anyone who questioned tourist safety in Negril. "Tourists are NOT targeted", "this stuff doesn't happen where tourists hang out", and many, many other ways that you belittled those who saw the forest through the trees. For a while there, you even had me thinking that I was over-reacting."

Up until this past Saturday tourists were NOT targeted.  This stuff did NOT happen where tourists hang out.

So you can all feel good about being "right"...I've been sick about being "wrong".  Be hysterical if that's what floats your boat - a tourist was killed and we don't know why...wrong place wrong time?  robbery gone bad?  something more personal?  We may never know.  But there, right in the middle of West End Road, 9:00pm - in between two popular resorts.

Maybe this is why there's a $2M JMD reward being offered.  There's no reward offered to find the guy who killed Colin Lynch.  Or the guy who shot up those 4 people on Lime Tree Lane...or the guy who gunned down the owner of Wise Choice's husband.  The only glimmer of hope is that now that a tourist has been shot, the powers that be might actually HAVE to do something.  If I were Jamaican or living in Negril full time that would both piss me off and make me "relieved".
To the businesses in Negril the sky is falling.  And it will continue to for a while. In the end THEY are the folks that depend on a short 3 month period with which to feed their families.  Aside from the grieving families of all dead, they lose and lose big.  But go ahead and celebrate being "right all along".  You were.  It was a matter of time as it turns out.  And now here we are.

Enjoy the Virgin Islands - my cousin used to rent a house in St. John for the winter, loved it.  Be safe where ever you may roam.

I'm actually doing the Maldives next, sort of opposite ends of the spectrum. The Yucatan/Quintana Roo has some amazing beaches and better food IMO. It's a shame you have to be so vigilant regarding the water issues. If not, I would be there much more than I have as of late.

The Maldives is SO on my bucket list...enjoy and if you are so inclined let us know about your trip with pics! (One of the most favorite things I read on this board was Jenny's trip report about Montserrat!)

Nice, definitely let us know how that goes. I've looked a lot over in that region in general, but the travel time is always the deal killer for me. Eventually we'll get tired of the Caribbean, but we aren't there yet.

We went to St John in March/April, and it is a pretty awesome place. We were on St Thomas a couple nights, and it has a lot to offer as well, but St John I think would be right up your alley.

My research tells me St John would be the island of choice when I hit the Virgin Islands. Laid back and lush with a nice beach is really all I need. It is on my short bucket list and I'm sure I will be there in a year or two.

As far as the Maldives, it is quite the hike to get there. I will be on two different flights for nearly a full day just to get there, however in business or first class it is not much of an issue as you can sip on alcohol to your hearts delight and enjoy a lie flat seat to catch some zzzzzz. Once you land in Male the capital you still need to take a speed boat or a seaplane to reach your resort.

If you know how to churn credit cards you can get there for cheaper than a round trip coach flight to Jamaica. Outside of the minimum spend requirements, you might have to absorb an annual fee. However, there are cards out there that you can net zero spend with the additional benefits they offer. There is no way in hell I would pay the cash price for that ticket, as they are north of $5k for a RT business class ticket.

I also have a credit card that covers the 4th night for free. So I am booking two resorts and will only pay 6 out of 8 nights. So while this trip will cost more than my typical trip, it will not break the bank had I paid for 8 nights with airfare separately. In fact, I will spend less than half if I had paid outright for airfare and hotel.

If any of this interest you do a search on manufactured spend and credit card churning. You will find numerous bloggers who are more than happy to teach you how to "work" the system.

RE: bar owner shot dead in Negril last night - TAH - 06-13-2016

That's awesome, I'll definitely look into that. A lot of people tell me I need to do just that, and I know I do, but somehow it just never happens. But first class at that kind of price? Yeah, that's worth the time. Down the rabbit hole I go...
