Vaccinations question - CardBoardBox - 09-21-2019 Whereas I am going to bring a newbie to the island, she had questions about shots, to wit I did a duckduckgo search and found this page https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/jamaica Has anyone taken precautions? Please give me feedback/suggestions. She is not a germ-a-phobe but it is her first flight outside the USA. I think hook worm and mosquito bites are a risk but is a separate subject beyond vaccinations. Below are near complete snip-its from the CDC page: All travelers should be up to date on routine vaccinations: Measles and, "measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot." Most travelers: Hepatits A "CDC recommends this vaccine because you can get hepatitis A through contaminated food or water in Jamaica, regardless of where you are eating or staying." Typhoid "You can get typhoid through contaminated food or water in Jamaica. CDC recommends this vaccine for most travelers, especially if you are staying with friends or relatives, visiting smaller cities or rural areas, or if you are an adventurous eater. Some travelers: Hep B and Rabies if you use needles or play with bats. (Personally, bats are our friends.) Comment. The 'staying with friends' part causes a chuckle, as does the US re-entry form which asks if you visited a farm. IMO, Jamaica is one giant farm, but I still check 'no.' RE: Vaccinations question - Yooper - 09-22-2019 My Doctor recommended Hep B just incase I were to be involved in an accident or need medical treatment of some kind. His concern was the medical facilities there may not be a sterile as the hospitals here. Something to consider... RE: Vaccinations question - Westenders - 09-22-2019 None of us have had vacs for many many years |
