Shark week Jamaica - oldtimer - 07-13-2021
I don't mean land sharks either. Sharks are what keep our oceans alive . Years ago ,the lady that use to own Yellowbird ( in fact I think she bought that land from the Arthur family ) use to walk the Negril beach from YB down to where Travellers is today and back each morning . There was a little shark that would swim along side her in the water down and back everyday . This went on for a long time . Then one day no shark . It was about 3 feet long and I'm not sure what kind it was . I use to stop in and have tea with her often and she told me way back then that there were very few fish close to shore so she wasn't sure how or why the little animal was always there to meet her . A couple of years ago there was a Bull Shark up by the cliffs keeping all the weak and sick fish cleaned up and keeping it healthy and then a few fishermen decieded to kill it . It turned out to be a mother almost ready to give birth . They just killed it , nothing else , the one thing that was helping them have better fishing and healthyer waters . I went out to the Pedro Banks and there were sharks there . One fisherman told me that these sharks use to go into the Black River so I guess they might have been young Bull Sharks . The fishermen never bothered them and in return they didn't bother people . The sharks that are just killed for theirs fins for shark fin soup is just another example of one culture that has no feeling for anything but themselves are now being reeling in a little to help our oceans survive Millions of sharks pulled out of the water cut their fins off and throw them back into the sea like garbage .
