Weird looking fish. I have to say I'm skeptical about the 900lb estimate but huge fish just the same.

That certainly isn't a 900lb fish . They would NEVER !!!!! be able to pull it into the boat .We tail drag big tuna back to the wharf . I have seen monster !!!! sunfish while fishing tuna. They look like giant shadows when they go by the boat . Now don't get me wrong ,the sea is not full of these guys but they aren't rare here in Nova Scotia. There is no commerical fishery for them and I have never seen one butchered up either. I hope these guys did something with it rather than just killing it like they do sharks. All fish are in the sea for a reason.If it was really rare the Asians would want every last one of them . I know that isn't very PC but it is the truth.

I asked a couple of fishermen if anyone ever had heard of eating Sunfish and nobody knew. Why do these Jamaican fishermen want to kill everything ,just like that Bull Shark on the cliffs last winter. Completely no knowledge of the oceans ,like many others. Sometimes I think that all fisherpersons are mentalily challenged !!!! They have no concern for tomorrow . They guy said he didn't want it to get away but didn't say what he was going to do with it..SHEESH !!!!

That is one ugly fish! Has anyone ever tried eating it? Test it out to see if the johncrow or stray cats will eat it? Agree it should not be wasted, at least grind it up for fertilizer or something.

ohliz, those sunfish you are describing (I assume) are in the perch or bream family which are very good eating and small as you described.
