It's really tough to tell someone who is poor not to catch a few little fish to make enough $ to survive when leaving them would, one day, possibly for a different fisherman, grow into more $.
Constant stress between short and long term goals, just like most places, but with more desperation.
One thing i like in the Belize video is when the JA group snorkel and see the # and size of fish in the sanctuary there and are so amazed and want to replicate that back home. Dennis says it gives him hope and determination. But even in Belize (which, like Costa Rica, seems to have a lot of Jamaican folks on the east coasts), they struggle to educate everyone who sees big lobsters (with roe) and fish in the sanctuary and want them.
The filmmaker who made the Massa God Fish can Done video, Esther Figeuroa, has lot of other very cool videos focused on environment and sustainability issues in Jamaica. Educational, and also beautiful and entertaining. I subscribe to her youtube channel.
