My small town life in Northern Minnesota and a neighbor's social media post from today:
Just so people can be aware. Lucky me, says "private caller", then says area code of 876 which is from Jamaica. They are calling with a lottery scam! I told them my name, spelled wrong totally and he said, "oh yeah, that is what I see here too."
Watch out! They are mostly hitting/calling 60 and older and try to get your bank info.
Everyone in Ely goes to this site, so want to warn Ely people so no one falls for this."

"Unfortunately, these scammers are very persistent and in some cases verbally abusive, threatening to harm victims if they do not send money.”
“Don’t pay any money to collect supposed sweepstakes winnings. Never wire money to anyone with whom you are not familiar. Don’t provide anyone with personal information such as bank account, pin numbers, or Social Security numbers. And contact your local authorities to report a phone scam.”
In some ways I would enjoy chatting up one of these bumbaclots...err...scammers but I don't answer the phone anymore.
