I just watched a 1 hour documentary on Jamaica, the show is called Drugs INC. guns, gangs and ganja. It deals with Kingston mostly with a small part in Mo Bay. The show was made in 2013, and they throw around a lot of statistics, regarding the homicide rate, drug usage, and general crime stats. The interviews I found interesting were explaining the "Don" system and how the neighborhoods depend upon the gangs to provide protection from thieves. The gangs also help to feed and clothe the poor, and they seem to regulate disputes, ect. just like a municipality. I find it ironic that very often at home I think of our government as corrupt, but in Kingston they KNOW they are corrupt , yet effeicient and apparently functional.
