 Yes,Mexico and Jamaica would both be considered developing nations, but in reality only one is actually developing.

As we consider places to spend extended time in future winters, sadly Jamaica won't make the list of potential places. There are number of reasons, but now that I am 62, the complete lack of reliable health would be the top factor.

I've always wanted to zipline. . . but I'd never do it in a developing country.  The zip line at YS Falls goes right down the falls -- sure, you could hit the water but you could just as easily hit the rocks.  I can't imagine trying to get an ambulance at YS.

Oh God - after reading that Ricks website just now I shudder at the thought. I will never zipline in Jamaica ever ever ever and I too would like to try it Piney - i think - but im scared - but nope, not in Jamaica.

A friend of a friend was buried last week - she was 29.  She worked for a zip lining outfit in Hawaii...she went to go help a customer who was "stuck" in the middle over a deep canyon, lost her grip and plunged to the bottom of said canyon.  How many times had she zipped that line before?  And this - in the "mother" of developed countries...

A former neighbor and friend drowned doing something he's done since he was 13 years old - surfing.

In the coming months we'll be hearing the coast guard helicopters and ambulance sirens just about every weekend - someone taken out to see by a rip tide, a stumble down the trail along the cliffs to the beach...or missing a turn on the 1 and striking a utility pole.

Shit happens, everywhere.  We can only do our best to keep our selves as safe as we can but life is for the living and whatever that means to you - cliff diving, surfing, taking a dip in the raging Pacific - eat it up whole, but understand, always understand the consequences.

I mean, damn - all I'm doing is a play in a community theater and I fell off the stage and banged up my left knee and right elbow!  Community theater is NOT for sissies y'know

Shit happens anywhere/anytime... But when one is lead to believe or one assumes (because they havent been cued into the real situation) that there is an adequate safety net available for tourists (when shit happens)-when we know there isnt....Thats the shit i dont tolerate well...

Suzengrace and OT, I agree with you guys. So is everything still rosey on the "utter" board or blaming the victim as I have read here. I have not been there in a while. I know some peeps there can be cruel but of course others are not.
