Recently I sent this link to my son. He texted and asked mom are you the best negro you can be. I replied son, I try to be the best person I can be, but I never forget someone might not see it because of my skin tone .
I so agree Macy. I try to use this awareness positively to not get discouraged when it seems criticism is coming my way for no good reason. I need to think realistically, though, and work with the verifiable facts rather than just be emotional about it. The list of people who achieved goals when the whole world said they couldn't is long indeed. 'It is impossible, then it is done.' - Nelson Mandela. I think that if I have learned one thing about human nature it is how subjective and emotional we can be. If they like you, you can do no wrong, and if they dislike you, you can do no right. If you should somehow find a way to walk on water, your supporters would be celebrating and proclaiming 'Macy can walk on water!' Your detractors will be saying 'Macy can't swim.' The fact is that the haters will not be coming to give help when you really need it, and their negative opinions are not worth losing sleep over. Easier said than done, but I believe that is what I need to strive for. Stick with the people who work with you rather than against you, and help each other.
