Nope. Saw a kid get stabbed in the chest and he spent 2 weeks in Black River Hospital. The neighbor kid next door to the house we were renting was the culprit and we kept our mouth shut. It was strange when kids would walk past the house we were in and sing the song "white man is the informer" for the days following. Kind of a passive aggressive threat as I took it. If you plan on returning or keeping your life...keep your mouth shut about everything you see.
My decision would be based on the severity of the situation and whether or not I could relocate if I did decide to become involved.
We had a family who wasn't from the lane living in front of us a couple of years ago. After the house was finished being built and we were able to finally live in it, we brought our kids down for the first time. The tween from the yard in front of us was coming over all the time. My son who I think was 12ish at the time, told me "I don't like him nor do I trust him". Something about the way the kid moved, bothered him.
A couple of years ago, this same kid was known to be running around the neighborhood and tiefing anything he could. George, who was getting on in years and had had a stroke, did odd jobs with repairing fridges and the like. He came into the yard one day, distraught that he phone got tiefed from his room. All his numbers etc, were in it. He knew who did and after some discussion confessed that it was this kid.
A few days later, we went out for the day, and thought Felix was still in the house and left the back door open... Duh! Came back later and both of us seemed to 'short' on our cash that was in our bedroom.
At the shop that evening and was mentioning the money thing, and girlfriend say, wholey crap! The kids were saying that the boy was in the lane bragging how he stole money from the white people. She say, I didn't think it was you though.
Well, guess we had had enough beers at the time and when the boy passed in the lane, husband ran him down, grabbed him by the collar and started giving him shit... At that point I was so pissed off, when I went to the yard, George was there and I asked him if he wanted to come to the station to report the boy. He said yes and off we went.
Got the station and told the desk that I wanted to make a report. The Sargeant at the desk kinda looked at me like I was nuts and I told him the entire story. He said, since the boy was under 16 there was nothing they could do. I said ok, but a report needs to made on this kid as he is thiefing laptops etc all over the nieghborhood. He asked one of the cops if they wanted to take a drive up to the Westend and they preceded to follow me up.
When we got in the lane, the mother came out of the house, flipping out and cops took her aside with the kid, while I was speaking to other cop. I told him, I know you can't do anything cause of his age and all, but at least if there is a report then when he begins to go down the real bad road there will be something on file for him. Also, if nobody reports this kid he will continue to think he can get away with it. The cop agreed with me and told me I had done the right thing. I kinda got the feeling he may have been one of the good ones.....

Each situation is like informing on the mob but without witness protection. The grudge is passed on so the sins of the father visit ALL generations.

Someone reminded me today that he did indeed get an ass-whooping. Stole from the wrong guy... If I remember correct ended up with some broken limbs and in the hospital...
Probably should add this to the Jamaican Justice post LOL!
Winni , I think you did the best thing. Hopefully fear of the police coming would have had an effect on him.
Hopefully his mum would have licked him.
In England he would have had to pay reperation through community service, and the mother would have been sent on a parenting course.
They need programmes like that, it does help. Parents hate having to go to parenting classes,

I was ripped off by the same boy as Winni.....not only didn't his mother reprimand him....she covered for him when I brought the police to her house. Shyt runs deep there!!! Just sayin'!!!
