I'm not sure how reassured people should feel about how good of shots these people are. Yes, it was certainly gang related, and they got the guy they intended to get. But they also killed an innocent victim in the process.
And to question why people would hang out there, with the motorcycle taxis? I've hung out in front of that bike shop many, many times. Whenever there is a decent crowd at Collette's people hang out outside the bar, which always spills into the bike shop. I've regularly chatted with people over at the bike shop, and I've never experienced even a remotely negative vibe there. I wouldn't consider it any kind of a "hangout" - it was just a bike shop. I've never seen more than a few people there, and I don't think of it as any kind of a motorcycle taxi hangout. A bad guy just happened to be there that day. If this is someplace a tourist needs to avoid, then all of Red Ground, downtown, and most of the West End should probably be off limits.
I'll be having another drink at Collette's in less than a month. This won't deter me. But I will not dismiss the very real chance of something happening.
