Itâ€s official....my husband and I have moved to the US. It was a 1.5 year process and it wasnâ€t easy. In the end it was me that was the hold up because I had to prove to the US that I was actually going to leave Jamaica and return to the US. I would have thought that would have been an easy thing to prove but it wasnâ€t LOL. Beyond the whole frustration of the entire process the worst part was that we actually had to leave the same day the visa was issued as paperwork expired the next day! Same day tickets are ridiculously expensive. Thankfully we were able to return two weeks later to come get dogs, what other stuff we left as well as to say goodbye to family and some friends.
This is a new and exciting process for my husband (he had never been to the US before) and sort of a bittersweet one for me. I know itâ€s the right thing to do for us and for our future family, but man was it hard to leave. There are times I forget Iâ€m not going back to live...I had a good life in Jamaica and some days I want to run right back (some days I think I will LOL). ïŠ After just shy of 7 years in Jamaica, moving back has been a major adjustment, thatâ€s for sure.
Itâ€s been great having my family meet my husband (and vice versa), to spend time with my grandma who is in hospice now and to spend time with my other grandparents.... not to mention my niece, nephew and others. Weâ€ve already been able to travel a little (Chicago) and spent time letting him get to know Minneapolis. Iâ€m very exciting for the prospect of future travel with my husband without the headaches of visas (at least within the USA). In the past weâ€ve travelled to several Caribbean islands together as well as around Jamaica but itâ€s so exciting to think about travelling throughout the US and showing him all there is to see (and eventually outside the US too). He caught the travel bug from me so itâ€s fun to see the excitement from him too whenever weâ€re going someplace.
So anyway, I just thought Iâ€d update anyone that wanted to know what was up. Funny enough, Iâ€ve already heard things about myself which are quite humorous. But hey if people want to talk... let ‘em. ïŠ
